Mentions in Google Docs

It is always awesome stumbling upon a feature that instantly enhances your workflow, regardless of what medium it is in. Maybe you found a new way to get that last little bit of toothpaste out of the tube or overheard someone talking about a new app that is *exactly* what you're looking for.

In this case, adding mentions in Google Docs is that awesome feature: It calls attention to the user and sends an email informing them of the comment. It is useful for shared Docs between large groups or two users. 

To create a mention, simply add a comment to a doc by clicking on the Comment icon in the Docs toolbar.

Before you add your comment, type the plus key and enter the recipients Bay Path email address. In the example below, I used +vchavis to ensure the comment mentioned Val.

An email is automatically generated from the commentator (you) to the recipient. Clicking on the top link (in this case, EXT099 Course Redesign - November 2015) will take the user directly to the comment in question.

Easier Access to your (Work/Life) Calendars

Managing any semblance of a balanced calendar isn't the easiest thing to do, especially when a new semester starts or you're thinking about when that next NEASC meeting is. Oh, and work/life balance...that's in there as well.

Luckily, Google Labs has a feature to help you get the most out of your online experience so you get back to focusing on the real-world activities at hand! 

This Lab keeps a copy of your Google Calendar open as a separate pane in Gmail, so you can toggle between your Calendar and Chat at any time.

My Maps: New in Google Drive

Google has just launched My Maps, a new way to connect content to the visual medium of Maps.

There are lots of possibilities (I already have one brewing...) as you can label areas and create your own directions for field trips, away games and lots more. Check out the launch page for some tips on how to get started!

App 1: Notability  I import all pdfs and associated documents for meetings and projects and keep it backed up through google drive!  It allows me to mark up those documents and make my own notes.

App 2: Google Drive/Dropbox Google Drive/Dropbox.  A nice repository for all my documents that allows me to move them around from one device to the other!
